Surfing Mums

Two mums, trading waves over a few days up the coast. Katherine had given birth to our second child a few weeks before, and Emily was a few months into cooking up her second.

It doesn't get much better than catching up with a good friend between waves, with all other cares and concerns relegated to dry land while nature is shining all around. 

Ceylon Sliding

Back in 2012 (yep that's how up-to-date and current this blog is!) we had a short winter break on the sand bottomed points of Sri Lanka. "We" being Katherine, our 1 year old son and my brother Jack. Very enjoyable all round.

Surfing Mum

Here's my wife and two sons on a family surf adventure mid way through this year. The boys played in and on these local fishing boats before falling asleep in the narrow amount of shade afforded by them and the tropical sun above. Meanwhile Katherine and I took turns racing some fast peeling point surf without another surfer in sight. Not every go-out on the trip was as idyllic! Among her many other talents and fine characteristics, I'm stoked to have a surfing wife.

Beach Grunge

My my local beach (geographically, I can't limit myself to just one!) is flanked by national parks with majestic sandstone bluffs and an island in a picturesque river mouth, and yet it has an undeniable gritty urban feel as well. And I like it. I like the surfers, I like the vibe. Plus there's the waves... Here's Katherine enjoying a small and peeling afternoon session.

Last Time

 

A little montage featuring the baby bump last time my wife Katherine was pregnant. I say last time, because yep it's happening all over again : ) Stoked. I can see it may become even harder to keep posting my incidental surferjoe photos here with any frequency, but we'll see how it pans out. I know we're both keen to cram a bunch of surfing in this summer holidays anyway. Fingers crossed for some uncharacteristic epic summer days! I'll try and gather some evidence for future posts if so... Season's greetings to you and yours.

Drawn Lines

Some people draw on walls, others draw lines on waves. As well as surfing her traditionally inspired longboard lines, my wife Katherine draws all kinds of lines on digital screens, paper, canvas, card, wood, surfboards and more.  She keeps some of these drawings in a cyber place called Drawn Lines.

The Little Things

The stoke is often in the details for me, the incidental things I sometimes overlook are an irreplaceable part of going surfing.
