Sun Shower

The end of Summer. Warm & sunny rip-bowl lefts. Great place to wash off the week.

Salty Fresh

I'm sure I've said it before on here, and I'm sure I'll say it again - it's a great way to start the day.

The Surfer's Garden

Now I don't want to over generalise or cast aspersions on the work ethic of all surfers... but I'm guessing that compared with the general population surfer's gardens and odd jobs like painting may be lingering on to-do lists for a little longer than other people's, if not languishing there for some time!

Valla

You might remember my favourite board ever post from late last year, the board works as well as it does for good reason. Here's some insight into the passion and dedication the Joskes have for both their surfboards and surfing. Really well put together short from Mark Tipple.

Walkabout

Some incidental scenes and Hugh trimming at speed.

Head Dipping

Photo courtesy of my good mate Jason Smith. The board is a chunky little 5'10 single fin Azza of Sealegged fame shaped very early on in his board building career. It's a lot of fun, I really enjoy single fins.

Super Glider

Four inches thick and Volon glassed, a 12 foot Californian longboard, ready for some serious trimming.

June 1, 2012

Orange

Same session as the second last post. It was actually a busy Saturday morning and the conditions were such that nearly every break on this stretch of coast would've been hosting some decent waves.

Green Walls

A great start to the day, leaves a spring in your step for sure.

One Wave

Ahh point surf, gotta love it.

Lady Logger

Early Autumn when most of the guys had already, and probably unnecessarily retreated to their steamers.

Thanks Dan, I can now add that this lady logger is Nicole Maloney. Fine with a surfboard and fine with a pen. See what I mean here.

Sharing Is Caring?!

Sharing is caring. Well so some people say! It usually depends on the context though, like whether they're inside or outside you at the time... or how well you know them, or if you're both catching a wave to avoid one of the men in grey suits.

Easy Five

Kai's a young longboarder who puts it all together nice and smooth.

Hangs Upon Nothing

Nice looking film, more emphasis on the journey than the destination although still some seriously good waves ridden.

Sunday Mornings

Sunday mornings are often quite busy in the lineups around here. This one was atypical though - reasonably populated but not uncomfortably so, with great conditions and fun waves on a well defined bank. And it was one of the last weekends of the calendar summer.

Let's Not Forget Jacko Either

Jacko joined Nat and Zid and a whole host of others in their quest for some kind of notoriety or recognition. I wonder whether their rock carvings or these images now floating through cyberspace will last longer?

May 9, 2012

So Was Zid

Can't imagine there's too many Zids out there. Anyway like Nat, one of them also took the time to make their mark in stone.

May 7, 2012

Nat Was Here

No young Nat here. Two local longboarders though, and good ones too. Nat someone decided to scratch their name in a rock at the beach.

May 5, 2012

Fathoms

Huge waves, cold water, wild weather... I think I'll stick to cruising the beachies around here!

May 4, 2012

Scene from the Beach

Scenes many miles from home. There's no pandanas trees at the beaches I haunt around here, but I try and be where they are a few times each year.

Fly Over

Winter last year. Pretty low and loud, livened up this grey day.

April 27, 2012

Three Foamers

It was summer and it was warm. The waves obviously weren't great but this guy rode a bunch of waves in a short amount of time and called it a surf. A friend of mine has an interesting rule for himself; he has to ride at least three waves to call it a 'surf'. Fair enough I reckon.

Rocky Point + Concrete

A fun point near here with rocks on it, not quite the same as the Hawaiian Rocky Point.

Some friends and I recorded this song a while back, the genesis of which occured while negotiating some broken glass in the carpark of one of my favourite beaches on the coast.

April 13, 2012

Up Close

Azza squatting to be nice and close to the oncoming wall of liquid. Surfing is fun!

April 11, 2012

Little Lady Slider

She had a permanent smile and rode wave after wave after wave. Not a summer day she'll ever forget I reckon.

Four Way Fun

I haven't actually tried all these surf craft personally, but whatever brings on the fun.

Under and over and trimming for more, surfer joes surfing.

March 30, 2012

Summer Grovelling

The waves were nothing to write home about, but the water was warm and the sun was out. A fun grovelly session in south east QLD. It was a pretty rare day when the water, sky and wind all came together at once this Summer just been. But then again that's not that unusual for summer.

March 28, 2012

Stunned Mullet

I'm thinking it's probably an Australian expression, so for those from further afield... the stunned mullet is a look of bewilderment or astonishment. The guy on the rocks in the top right is doing a pretty good impression. The waves passing in front of those rocks were nothing special either so I'm not really sure what brought the look on. Maybe he saw a mermaid swim by.

More Surfing Videos

In case you haven't already seen it. It makes me cringe and and want to run away but at the same time I can't take my eyes off it! A bit long and slow, but check out the first few. It is "Chopes" apparently like it's never been before.
