Yesteryear I

Cleaning out most of the left over pics from last summer. Some fun looking days, but overall I think this summer has been better. Hopefully it gets better yet. What I'm really looking forward to is some classic Autumn conditions...

Most Difficult

Greatest Lessons

"The reality of surf is that it is almost never consistently reliable. That is one of its greatest lessons: To lessen disappointment, one must first lessen expectation."
Gerry Lopez in Surf Is Where You Find It (2008).

Happy Birthday

Happy birthday to the blog that is... begun one year ago yesterday. The inaugural post was a celebration of those exhilarating first rides. Learner shots are some of my favourite posts. And at this time of year there's no shortage of people out there having a go, great to see and worth celebrating. Even with grey skies their enthusiasm remains undeterred.

I'm determined that my own enthusiasm stays strong too, big and micro, epic and average. Here's to another year of everyday surfers enjoying the ocean.

Summer?

With an all day offshore, grey skies and colder water you could easily think this was a winter's day. Just another marginal summer day.

December Spike

We've been enduring a typical prolonged period of very average summer surf. Dec 21st was a welcome relief even if it didn't live up to it's full expectations.
