The Blue Valla
A fun beachie a little way up the coast from here. Photos courtesy of my good mate Jason Smith. A fine single fin surfboard by Sage Joske.

Solo Peaks
Earlier this year we had a few days in a sleepy little coastal town with a fun point break of some renown, except there was a gaping big hole where all the sand usually gathers and the point itself really was fast asleep. However, early each morning I ventured only a few hundred metres to the north and gorged myself on some small but very shapely and very empty peaks. Stoked.

Summer King
Hours and hours in the water grappling with all the subtle skills required for this new addiction, must feel like a king to casually slide one all the way in until the fins dig into the sand.

Sneaky Insiders
Johnny doesn't let too many of those shapely small insiders slip through unnoticed, or unridden more to the point. It's one of the many joys of longboarding I reckon.

Beach Grunge
My my local beach (geographically, I can't limit myself to just one!) is flanked by national parks with majestic sandstone bluffs and an island in a picturesque river mouth, and yet it has an undeniable gritty urban feel as well. And I like it. I like the surfers, I like the vibe. Plus there's the waves... Here's Katherine enjoying a small and peeling afternoon session.

Surf Stacks
Slippery wax, over ambition, other surfers - whatever the cause, falling off will always be part of the surfing experience.

Summer Weeds
Not only do now-adult surfers like myself have to deal with the weeds that erupt from every skerrick of dirt around the house during summer, we also have to suffer the pain of watching young whipper snappers paddle and surf rings around us in the surf. Their often coat hanger thin arms belie their ability for non-stop paddling, and with their uninterupted school holiday all day surfs they seem to have progressed leaps and bounds every time I see them in the surf. Well I should clarify, they're surfing rings around me anyway - maybe you're still shredding! Come to think of it, I don't know if my efforts could ever have been described as shredding...

Dan Santangelo
Dan always turns a few heads when he heads out here at his local beach. It's obvious he intimately knows every curve and edge on his boards. There's more than a few other local surfers benefitting from his Santangelo shapes too.

Back Beaches
Back beach swell magnets, protected from our summer nor' easters, around here it's essential to have at least one in your "surf spot quiver".

Sean Finnelley
Sean's one of Sealegged's log riding test pilots. This was back in January and he was quickly getting acquainted with his new sled while the always frothing school-holiday groms frothed on.

Water's Edge
It's been a fair while since running some Water's Edge posts. I hope to keep them semi regular from now on. I enjoy seeing the various surfcraft and the equally diverse cast of surfers who ride them. I probably only know a few of the surfers personally, for quite a few I recognise their faces, boards or styles, but no name or life beyond the high tide mark, and others still are one-offs - people passing through or visiting from other parts of the coast who I wouldn't recognise from a bar of soap. All surfer joe's just coming and going, doing their thing.

Summer Scenes

Moody Waters
Plenty of moody and muddy waves around yesterday, still some today and even more tomorrow. These particular ones were actually from a big day last winter.

surferjoe.com.au
I let the hosting lapse on the www.surferjoe.com.au domain for a little while, but it's back online now! Hope you've been having some enjoyable ocean immersive moments lately. The water temp is certainly just right this summer and some amazing water colours too.

The Silver Seats
The scene from the silver seat under the pines early yesterday morning, before that sweltering 40 degree heat had set in. I had a few of those fun rip-bowl rights myself. So good to be in the water.
